Opportunity AreaHow might we improve data systems for healthcare delivery?
The proposed title of your ideaResearch, data and analysis in a bid to improve healthcare planning, monitoring and delivery.
Please describe your idea. Our goal is to assist government in assessing health sector policy by carrying out research and collecting data.
What problem does your idea solve in the market? Most policies in Uganda are made with no or very little reference to well researched data. In most cases, data based research is simply made up due to high levels of corruption both in government and various organisations involved with the government. Our role is to create a trusted platform through which government can monitor the performance of its policies while also creating a trusted base through which better policy can be formulated.
Briefly explain how you identified the need or opportunityIn the past three years, i have had three personal experiences with mothers losing their babies or their lives for one reason or the other. With reasons ranging from from, hectic work conditions to negligence of doctors and not forgetting the pure lack of in depth information on health related issues. Most information out there is targetting treating and not prevention. This simply shows that data is either not being adequatly collected or the analysis is not in depth enough.
Who are the beneficiaries of your solution and how will they benefit?Research shows that especially when it comes to maternal health care. No mother is safe in Uganda, most doctors are over worked and underpaid, resulting in a need for these doctors to create clinics where they work on night duty and search, or in their free time. This error has led to the death of many mothers, children and people in emergency situations.
Why are you convinced your solution will solve the problem? This solution will solve alot of problems because not only will this data be used to make better policy that affects the entire country. It will create more awareness among people as this data will be published. To the general mass using various media.
What other initiatives like yours exist out there? How will you differentiate your solution? Most research in Uganda is done by the government or organisations that have partnered with the government. Most research done is academic research that is more targetted for international audience's given there interests and goals in developing countries like Uganda. Most politicians and more specifically members of parliament have the bare minimum education requirements therefore might not be able to realise or fully interpret data based research. Our goal is to create a body independent of government influence to guarantee transparency and unbiased representation.
What have you done up-to date to test your idea with potential users? What learnings do you have to share?Although so far we have not test this idea out on the health sector. We have had a chance to study various market sectors for fast moving consumer goods and can grantee the effectiveness that reliable and unbiased data has on, developing more effective policies and grounds under which a policy can be monitored effeciently.
How will you financially sustain your business?Quantum Analytics is a firm that will especially focus on research, data collection and analysis. This means that we will highly depend on International grants to sustain a working model for the business. We also will offer research training in CFA and various other research tools in a bid to generate revenue suffecient enough to support the cause.
