Opportunity Area

How might we improve demand and access to essential maternal health medicines & supplies in Uganda??

The proposed title of your idea

MamaCare App.

Please describe your idea.

An app that helps pregnant mothers locate the nearest delivery center within 1mile radius and sends alerts to the center that she is coming.

What problem does your idea solve in the market?

This will help in solving this persistent problem in Uganda where by pregnant mothers don't have safe deliveries of their babies because health centers are inadequately prepared to handle them due to surging numbers or lack of basic supplies. if the mother is told in advance that the contacted center cannot handle the case, then she can opt for another one within range.

Briefly explain how you identified the need or opportunity

Listening to political rhetoric whereby politicians persistently say that about 19 mothers die due to labor related complications daily in Uganda. This pushed us as innovators into how we can make a contribution towards solving this impasse.

Who are the beneficiaries of your solution and how will they benefit?

Pregnant Mothers. Doctors and Nurses. Mothers are the major target in this development. they are helped in that they don't have to incur excess costs in case they go to a facility that can't help them. It fosters the antenatal care process since there are reminders at every stage of the gestation period from the app that help the mother not to forget their antenatal visits. Doctors and nurses are helped to know the clients they are handling and also in tracking their clients' visits.

Why are you convinced your solution will solve the problem?

Expectant mothers will be helped in accessing best quality care from centers which are well versed with their antenatal status and this is from the nearest health centers. They won't have to miss antenatal visits due to forgetting because the application gives reminders.

What other initiatives like yours exist out there? How will you differentiate your solution?

Mama Cards. these are hard copy cards which present themselves with the logistical challenges faced with paper for example storage, wearing out, being forgotten etc.

What have you done up-to date to test your idea with potential users? What learnings do you have to share?

How will you financially sustain your business?

Any time a user successfully uses the app, an affordable charge is placed on the health center and also the centers will have to subscribe in order to have their services shown on the application.
