Opportunity AreaHow might we improve data systems for healthcare delivery?
The proposed title of your ideaHealthSurv-UG; Our idea is an extensive Geographic Information System health care surveillance program.
Please describe your idea.Mapping health care data for doctors/planners hence address geographical links between health care and location through geospatial analysis
What problem does your idea solve in the market? We are solving the problem of; 1.How to determine if there are clusters of specific types of sexual reproductive diseases associated with a given location. 2. How to manage disease outbreak by visualizing where patients lived and the potential spread of the disease through predictive algorithms 3. How to identify which locations are in greater need of specific health services like health promotion and other healthcare infrastructure. 4. How to provide early warnings to suggest to health officials environmental factors to be explored through predictive algorithms
Briefly explain how you identified the need or opportunityData analysis used to be a headache for my friends during my studies at university.Though i tried my best to teach them the various statistical methods, my efforts were in vain. However, all of them enjoyed drawing graphs and pie charts. They would say that diagrammatic representation of data made data interpretation easier and i totally agree with them. This is evidenced by my love for atlases, its easy to understand without having to analyze the amount of data collected. So this got me thinking, what if we mapped the available data concerning health. Huge amounts of data, possibly national data could be visualised on a single map hence help in planning and monitoring of health care.
Who are the beneficiaries of your solution and how will they benefit?Doctors/Planners will have a routine health information system that would determine for example how far one had to travel to receive a health service. Determine human resource availability hence ensure a fair distribution of services and prioritize worst areas. Also critical will be the ability to build and organize relevant medical content that links place to health conditions, risks, and outcomes. Therefore, HealthSurv-UG will provide early warnings to suggest environmental factors to explore
Why are you convinced your solution will solve the problem?Patterns in data and smart visualization don’t lie. For example if a particular disease affected only specific residents, their environment (air, water, social status) would need exploring. Linking healthcare data to the environment would greatly improve healthcare planning, monitoring and delivery.
What other initiatives like yours exist out there? How will you differentiate your solution? There are no initiatives out there that map health care data but there are startups such as;SNAP HMIS, Teheca and Drug dash that we can partner with. Because the mentioned initiatives do not link place to health conditions, risks and outcomes, HealthSurv-UG will fill that void. Using health workers clinical activity data collected by SNAP HMIS, HealthSurv-UG can map that information which can be used on a national scale to monitor health care quality. Teheca could be used to identify available human resource who can be fairly distributed using HealthSurv-UG and the information from Drug dash could be used to provide early warnings to suggest to health officials environmental factors to be explored to improve health care.
What have you done up-to date to test your idea with potential users? What learnings do you have to share?
How will you financially sustain your business?Build a complex solution whereby anyone who wants to use the solution will have to hear our team to customize and configure HealthSurv-UG for them. Therefore it will be sustained by funds from users once launched and also selling commercial licenses. To encourage the use of our analytical and visualization services, we will offer an initial free service to each client and consider future discounts for the loyal clients.
