About Up Accelerate

We believe that young people in Uganda have the potential to address social health challenges in their communities through entrepreneurship.

We shall continue to be a dependable partner in supporting young innovators by providing them with the practical skills & resources needed to enable them build socially impactful enterprises in health.

Up Accelerate was born as a regional initiative of United National Population Fund (UNFPA) East and Southern Africa, implemented by Outbox and funded by UKAID to explore new and engaging ways of tackling pressing sexual reproductive health challenges through promoting social entrepreneurship among young people.

This is a web and mobile application that supports health workers to easily collect data related to their clinical activities and have it displayed in an easy to understand visual way so as to aid quick and real time decision making.

SNAP HMIS seeks to solve the problem of paper based mechanisms of capturing clinical data and the poor quality of aggregation and analytical tools currently being used in the health sector.

TEHECA seeks to solve the problem of limited and poor quality health care workers to provide timely care to expectant and new mothers by providing an alternative healthcare workforce.


Drug Dash

Our Solution

This is a decision support system that enables health centers and drug distribution organisations capture data on drug supplies and consumption so as to better understand consumption trends through easy to understand visualisation tools and support accurate decision making.

Drug dash seeks to solve the problem of poor decision making in drug ordering at health facilities due to under utilisation of data collected and stored in paper forms, leading to under stocking of needed or drugs demanded within a community.

Mabel Ndawula
Mabel Ndawula

Mabel is a Director in Deloitte’s Consulting department and an International Management Consultant with 14 years of experience working with national governments, international aid development partners, non-governmental organizations, civil society and private sector organizations. She has led program management assignments in various African countries.

She holds a Master of Business Administration from Edinburgh Business School, Herriot Watt University (UK). She is also a Certified Project Management Professional and a member of the Project Management Institute.
Mabel has expertise in Program and project management, Grants management, Project evaluation and impact assessment, Quality review management, and Business Plan development and advisory.
She is passionate about helping women and youth build businesses with new approaches to tackle gaps in both the social and economic landscape of this country.

Joshua Okello
Joshua Okello

Joshua Okello is Co-Founder and CEO at WinSenga, a company based in Uganda and Chile whose vision is to make every pregnancy and childbirth safe and magical through integrated mobile technologies that empower medical personnel to deliver standardized prenatal care and labour management to expectant mothers. Previously a 3rd place winner at Start-Up Chile (one the world’s biggest and most diverse startup accelerators), WinSenga was one of only 10 startups showcasing at the 2016 World Health Summit. Joshua has over 6-years’ experience building mobile and web solutions. He was awarded the 2014 the Future Africa Prize in Technology and is one of the youngest ever finalists for the Innovation Prize for Africa. He was also Silver Winner at the 2015 inaugural Oxford Africa Innovation Fair. Joshua graduated summa cum laude (Information Systems) from Makerere University.

Rukh-shana Namuyimba

Rukh-shana Namuyimba is a communications specialist at Vodafone Uganda with over fifteen (15) years experience in knowledge management and communications, media & public relations, reputational risk management, stakeholder management, technical writing and events management.

With a passion for philanthropic and sustainability projects in underserved communities Rukh-shana has at least seven (7) years’ experience in community development, implementation and evaluation of sustainability and responsibility programs in the areas of education, health, and water & sanitation.

Dr. Okello Samuel Moses
Dr. Okello Samuel Moses

Dr. Okello Samuel Moses, is a public health and project management Specialist, who holds two masters degrees, one in public health and the second one in project planning and management, he also has an excellence post graduate award Diploma in project planning and management from Uganda management institute (UMI) and a series of certificate courses, in social innovation, social Clinical franchising, total market approaches, M&E frameworks for HIV, USAID guidelines and regulations, Family planning for USAID implementers, quality management in health care, commercial private sector, Lot Quality assurance , Risk & Grants management , and most recently social marketing.

Currently he holds the position of head clinical services at Uganda health marketing group (UHMG) where he oversees health system strengthening initiatives using the WHO health system pillars, in addition he supervises commodity flow to the over 300 clinics under the alternative distribution mechanism financed by the UNFPA through the ministry of health as part of the total market approach to increasing access and sustainability of priority health products and services

Timothy Musoke
Timothy Musoke

Timothy Musoke is the a founder and Head of Consulting and Technology for Laboremus Uganda Ltd. Timothy did his under graduate in Software Engineering at Franklin University in Columbus Ohio. After University he worked with JP Morgan Chase and Bank One Corporation before returning to Uganda. After returning to Uganda, Timothy worked for various companies in Uganda focusing on IT software consulting services. Timothy started a few IT consultancy companies which prepared him to start Laboremus Uganda Ltd with Norwegian investors, where he works today.

Laboremus Uganda is software development company focusing on banking and finance customers with the majority of them in Europe. Laboremus makes a range of systems from internet banking, wealth management, credit processing workflows and other customized solutions.

Dr. Fredrick Kitoogo
Dr. Fredrick Kitoogo

Dr. Fredrick E. Kitoogo holds a PhD in Computer Science; an MSc in Computer Science and a Bachelor of Statistics. He holds several professional certifications including Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL), Oracle Certified Professional (OCP), Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), and Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE). Fredrick has over 20 years of experience in the field of Computer Science, specifically Research & Innovations, ICT Policy & Strategy Development; ICT Governance, Risk and Compliance; Software Engineering; Networking; Information Security; Business Continuity & Disaster Recovery; Business Intelligence & Data Warehousing; e-Government; Content Development; artificial intelligence and Natural Language Processing.

On top of conducting several consultancies, Fredrick has worked as a Senior Programmer/Systems Analyst at the Uganda Revenue Authority and an IT Manager of the Judiciary of Uganda.

Richard Zulu
Richard Zulu

Richard is the founder and lead at Outbox, a Google for Entrepreneurs partner hub that helps new and upcoming African entrepreneurs interested in using technology with workspace, mentorship, and training programs. Through partnerships, it helps them raise funding and access markets.

He has over six years experience in building support systems for startups and developer communities.

Raj Gangadia
Raj Gangadia

Raj Gangadia is currently Coordinator of Family Planning at the Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI) in Uganda. After graduating with a degree in Economics from Cambridge University he spent five years as a strategy consultant, predominantly in the London and Shanghai offices of L.E.K. Consulting. During this time he worked on transformational projects for a number of corporate and government clients, building a varied skillset around a core of analytical problem-solving.

Since the start of 2016, Raj has helped develop CHAI Uganda’s Family Planning program from scratch, building senior relationships within the Ministry of Health and providing strategic drive to improvements in the national supply chain. In that time he’s also worked with a number of grassroots health providers across the country to increase capacity in areas of logistics management.

Overall, Raj is passionate about disrupting traditional thinking – finding innovative solutions to the challenges faced in Uganda’s health system and working to ensure that these solutions become successful and operationally viable.

Richard Ngamita
Richard Ngamita

Richard is a Snr. Techlead at Medic. In addition, he recently led data teams on short term projects under startups like Vital Signs Data and Refunite and prior to that, he worked for Google in Dublin, Ireland as a data engineer on the spam team, as well as Google in Nairobi, Kenya, where he helped launch the first Google offices in Africa. Richard has a degree in Computer science from Makerere University and has worked in other African countries, such as Uganda and Ghana.

John Kimani
John Kimani

John is a Program Manager with Google’s Developer Ecosystem team in Sub-Saharan Africa. He is passionate about modern apps development practices and how developers can leverage them to build successful startup ventures. Previously he was a Developer Evangelist with Microsoft and had spent 5 years before that as a software developer building financial and human resource solutions for enterprises in Africa.”

Ms. Neema Iyer
Ms. Neema Iyer

Neema Iyer is the Regional Director for VOTO Mobile, an organization focused on amplifying the voices of the unheard through mobile technology. She has had the opportunity to work across countries many in Africa on a number of mobile-based projects, including the largest maternal health project in Africa, Wazazi Nipendeni.

Neema has a Masters’ degree in Public Health with a focus on Global Epidemiology from Emory University. She is particularly passionate about the use of mobile phones for improving health outcomes in low-resource populations through a combination of innovation and social entrepreneurship. When not working on ICT4D, she enjoys illustrating, boxing and traveling.

Mr. Nevin James Bradford
Mr. Nevin James Bradford

Nevin James Bradford is a senior Executive with over 30 years experience in the pharmaceutical industry, covering a broad spectrum of sectors like consumer health, personal care and generics.

He currently serves as the Chief Executive Officer of Cipla Quality Chemical Industries Ltd, a company that manufactures a range of medicines at Luzira Industrial park Kampala- Uganda.

Before joining Cipla Quality Chemical Industries Ltd, He was the Head of Africa for Cipla Ltd. Prior to joining Cipla, Nevin was head of Ranbaxy UK, Managing Director of Ranbaxy’s JV in China, Commercial Director of E C De Witt, Area Commercial Director of EEMEA, Country Manager Russia-Norvatis Consumer health and also spent over 3 years with Glaxo in a range of senior commercial roles in Russia.

Nevin is a graduate of Cambridge University and he is married with two sons.

John Charles Okiria is a health systems management consultant. He is one of the pioneer lecturers of IHSU since 2008. He joined the university with wealth of experience in the health sector of over 18 years having served in different capacities and committees. He is passionate about human resources for health capacity building and professionalism, quality and sustainability of pharmaceutical public sector and value for money services delivery models.

Ms. Arigye M. Munyangabo
Ms. Arigye M. Munyangabo

Arigye has 16 years of experience in the financial services domain, spanning reputed commercial banks such as DFCU Bank Ltd, which is the Development Finance Company of Uganda Bank Limited. She started her career at GroFin in March 2012 as a Senior Portfolio Manager for Uganda and is currently serving as its Investment Executive. She holds a Master in Financial Management from the University of London.

Dr. Nakiganda Dinah
Dr. Nakiganda Dinah

Dr. Nakiganda Dinah is medical a doctor with an advanced training in sexual reproductive health and rights from Lund University and a masters’ degree in public health (with special emphasis on maternal and child health) from the University of Sydney in Australia. She is on assignment to work as the assistant commissioner in charge of reproductive health at the Ministry of Health since December 2015.

She previously worked as the head of district medical services (District Health Officer) in the rural district of Kamuli in eastern Uganda and comes with a wealth experience and expertise in addressing the needs of the most vulnerable populations in low resource settings.
She has also worked with the Diocese of Jinja, and Baylor College of Medicine

Evelyn Namara
Evelyn Namara

Evelyn is the Founder and CTO of !nnovate Uganda, a technology start-up implementing technology innovations for sustainable development. Their flagship product, an electronic voucher system that works on mobile phones is currently being implemented by Mercycorps in different programs including USAID and WFP.

Evelyn is passionate about Technology for Development (ICT4D), Youth and Entrepreneurship as well as empowering women in technology.
Evelyn is an Anita Borg Institute (ABIE) Change Agent Award Winner, 2012. She’s also the Eastern Africa representative on the executive board of the Africa Civil Society on the Information Society as well as the Iam_the_code ambassador for Uganda.

Humphrey Nabimanya
Humphrey Nabimanya

Humphrey is a seasoned youth Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) advocate, leader, change agent and a presenter of a youth empowerment show on NBS Television, one of the leading local television stations in Uganda.

By founding Reach A Hand, Uganda (RAHU), Humphrey has created a movement of young advocates through a youth led and youth serving platform of 14 core team members and 160 volunteers (growing per year) under the Peer Educators Academy who by the end of 2015, had helped to directly reach over 600,256 males and 346,125 females within schools, carried out over 5000 Focused Group Discussions in over 70 schools, reached over 800,881 youth out of school through dialogues and outreaches, and over 400,000 young people on social and online media  on SRHR, youth empowerment and related issues.

Deborah Naatujuna
Deborah Naatujuna

Deborah Naatujuna is primarily responsible for engaging faculty, students, young entrepreneurs, private and public stakeholders with a specific focus on identifying and developing strategic partnerships on behalf of the ResilientAfrica Network (RAN) with the private sector, public institutions, and development actors throughout sub-Saharan Africa and beyond to support innovation and social entrepreneurship.She has acquired a wide range of knowledge and skill sets in the human centered design Approach, business modeling, innovation diffusion strategies and scaling, grant writing and resource mobilization, organizational growth and project management among other skills. As an innovation enthusiast, Mentor and Partnerships coordinator, Deborah has worked with universities and innovation hubs to shape the growth and sustainability of the innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem and to help universities translate their research into innovative and transformative interventions that will create impact in communities. She very passionate about support Home grown solutions and supporting local ecosystem startups to solve local challenges.
